Lokua Kanza, was born in 1958, the eldest of 8 children; his father was a Mongo from the Democratic Republic of Congo, his mother a Tutsi from the mountains of northern Ruwanda. At the age of 13, he decided to become a singer, after hearing a performance by
Miriam Makeba.
